Petrol prices London, updated twice a day

Since 2023 fuel retailers in the UK have been asked to publish their pump prices in a machine-readable file, and the larger brands — Asda, BP, Esso, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Shell, Tesco and the big forecourt operators — do so several times a day. This page reads those published files, keeps the stations inside Greater London and lays unleaded E10, super unleaded E5 and diesel side by side so you are comparing like with like.

Two consequences are worth knowing. First, a station only appears here if its operator files data: independent forecourts and some small chains are under-represented, so the cheapest pump on your street may not be listed. Second, prices are a snapshot from the last file, not a live reading from the pump. Treat a figure as accurate to within a penny or two, and expect the board on the forecourt to win any disagreement.

The sortable table is the fastest way to use the page: sort by the fuel you actually buy, then filter by postcode district so you are only looking at stations you would realistically drive to. Sorting the whole of London by price is interesting but not useful — the winner is usually in a borough twenty minutes away.

Do the arithmetic before you drive. A 50-litre fill at 4p per litre cheaper saves £2. A ten-mile round trip in a car doing 40 mpg burns roughly a litre of fuel, so about £1.40 of the saving is already gone, before the twenty minutes it took. Under two or three pence a litre, the nearest station almost always wins.

Where the difference does matter is the pattern rather than the trip: supermarket forecourts tend to sit below branded motorway-adjacent sites, and prices across a borough move together within a few days of a wholesale change. Using the table to learn which two or three stations on your normal route are consistently cheap beats hunting for a one-off bargain.

If you drive into central London, the fuel price is rarely the biggest line in the day's cost. A non-compliant vehicle pays £12.50 for the Ultra Low Emission Zone and £18 for the Congestion Charge on a chargeable day — more than the entire saving on a full tank.
